New rules for university vehicle rentals

Automobiles now rented by the university for 30 days or fewer can no longer be acquired through State Fleet and must be rented through private car rental companies that contract with the state.

For the Columbia area, Enterprise and Hertz can be used and both have multiple locations throughout the Midlands. Departments that frequently require vehicle rentals may establish a billing account with the companies directly, as well as the required purchase order for payment.

Please see the State Procurement website for all state-contracted rental companies and rates.

Rates include charges for the vehicle and insurance coverage. Rental agencies provide roadside assistance as needed.

Travel needs beyond 30 days of service will be considered a long-term lease and other arrangements can be made with Vehicle Management.

For fuel charges, department head approval is required. Please email EvansRG@mailbox.sc.edu for more information. Rental agencies may provide other fueling options.

If your department has made any reservations from Dec. 1 to Dec. 30, Vehicle Management is working to ensure that these are met. For more details about the change, please contact Vehicle Management at 803-777-1439 or visit the state Division of General Services website.
