"Food is a big part of healing, and each sport has some sort of fueling station. A fueling station is access to stuff to help keep you going between workouts. It’s by no means a meal, but it helps athletes get through the day and reach peak performance levels. I realized that dancers didn’t have anything like that. We are a part of the College of Arts and Sciences, an academic department. Even still, we are athletes. Especially with the location of the dance building behind Blatt, it’s quite a trek to Campus Village or other dining halls. We were dealing with people passing out or people skipping meals. It was a scary sight.
"I got some food and some organizational tools through my nutrition internship, and the fueling station has been going ever since. We’ve started a Dance Wellness Week, a whole week centered around dancer health and making sure they know how to use the fueling station correctly. It makes sure that not only are they getting the correct fuel throughout the day, but they’re realizing what it’s doing for their body. Those are skills you can carry beyond college and beyond being a dancer."
