A roundup of freebies every college student should know about

Budgeting is in for 2024. Fortunately, USC students can access a number of resources, programs and opportunities at low or no additional cost. Here's a roundup of free things on campus.

Financial help

Navigating personal finances can be tricky, but you don’t have to do it alone. The Student Success Center offers money management consultations to help you understand and create personal budgets, build your credit or plan financially for studying abroad or moving off-campus. Schedule a consultation and save your piggy bank.

Need immediate assistance? Apply for an emergency loan and don’t let temporary expenses prevent your academic success.

Health and wellness

Carolina Food Co. offers a variety of health, wellness and dietitian services that are available for all students. This includes individualized one-on-one consultations on topics such as food allergies, dietary restrictions and overall wellness goals. Dining halls also periodically offer wellness activities which will be posted on their social media pages

Student Health and Well-Being offers counseling and psychiatry services and has several options to meet students when and where they would be comfortable doing so. Sessions can be booked in MyHealthSpace. If there is an urgent need, students should call 833-664-2854.

Academic support

Tutoring services are in full swing for all students, free-of-charge. Get one-on-one support, supplemental instruction and writing and study help for hundreds of courses.

You can also join an accountability group and gain study buddies to help keep you on track while developing good study habits. Applications for accountability groups close Jan. 28.

Career coaching and interview help

Take full advantage of the Career Center and benefit from a team of coaches in your corner. Free perks available to students include career planning, internship and co-op opportunities and help with resumes and job searches.

Whether you want to explore careers or you have a final job interview, the Career Center Student Toolbox is there at each step of your journey. Practice your elevator pitch, find sample cover letters and network to find your dream job.

Want to gain opportunities outside your major or minor? Invest in an Interdisciplinary Certificate and gain earning potential before you graduate. Certificate options include data analytics and visualization, digital studies, project leadership and management and strategic thinking and communications.

Already have an internship? USC offers financial supplements of up to $3,000 to students who obtain internships and co-ops that support high-demand industries within the state of South Carolina. The deadline to apply for Spring 2024 is Feb. 29 on a first-come, first-served basis.
