The University of South Carolina has appointed Aaron C. Marterer as associate vice provost for Graduate Education effective Sept 1.
Marterer has more than 20 years of experience in higher education administration and has served the University of South Carolina in a variety of leadership roles. He has served as University Registrar since 2012 and became Interim Associate Vice Provost for Graduate Education in 2025.
In his current role, he has focused on streamlining business processes, leveraging university technology, and supporting graduate students from admission through graduation.
“Aaron brings a wealth of institutional knowledge and a deep commitment to the success of our graduate students,” said Provost Mary Anne Fitzpatrick, executive vice president for academic affairs. “His collaborative approach and extensive experience across the university make him an excellent leader for the Graduate School. I look forward to seeing him build on the strong foundation already in place and continue advancing graduate education at Carolina.”
As registrar, Marterer led complex university operations and worked across the institution to advance student success, enrollment, and graduation outcomes. He has also led efforts to modernize university systems and improve the student experience, playing a key role in the implementation of Banner Student Information System.
Marterer earned his Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of North Florida, as well as a master’s and bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina.
