At the University of South Carolina, we are committed to providing a supportive and healthy work environment that fosters both personal and professional growth. Our comprehensive well-being resources are designed to help you thrive in all aspects of your life.

Physical Well-Being

Faculty, staff, and their spouses can join Campus Recreation for access to on-campus facilities and programs like:

  • Group fitness classes
  • Personal training
  • Athletic training
  • Adventure trips
  • Intramural sports

We are committed to supporting nursing parents by providing comfortable and private lactation rooms across campus. These rooms are equipped with essential amenities to ensure a peaceful environment. 

Join an On-Campus Walking Group!

Take a break and get moving with our campus walking groups. Walks happen every Monday and Wednesday from 12:15-12:45pm during March-June and September-November.

Meet-up Locations:

  • Mondays: Hampton St. (in front of 1600 Hampton St.)
  • Wednesdays: Horseshoe (in front of the Maxcy monument)

Walks are designed to be self-paced, giving you the flexibility to move in a way that works best for you. Feel free to join others or head out on your own. Every step counts toward your well-being! Walks are weather permitting.

USC faculty, staff, and covered spouses/partners in the State Health Plan can get a free preventive health screening, valued at over $300, which includes a biometric check (blood work, height/weight, blood pressure). It features tests for glucose, cholesterol, and blood cell count, with optional extras like A1C, TSH, liver profile, Vitamin D, and PSA for an additional fee. Screenings are available weekdays from 8 to 9 a.m. at the Center for Health and Well-Being (Suite 104). A 12-hour fast is required. Wellness coaching provides you with education, support and accountability to develop habits for a healthier, more balanced lifestyle. Meet individually with a coach in-person or virtually to identify your priorities, set goals and build new habits around any of the following topics and more.

  • Balanced Eating
  • Physical Activity
  • Tobacco Cessation
  • Stress Management
  • Time Management
  • Sleep Health

Social Well-Being

Faculty and staff caregivers can join the Gamecock Caregiver Network for support, resources, and community. Meetings are held twice a month, both virtually and in person.

The network offers:

  • A supportive environment
  • Resource sharing
  • Policy information
  • Self-care encouragement
  • Advocacy

What is a Well-Being Champion?

An Employee Well-Being Champion is someone who actively supports and promotes well-being in the workplace. Champions raise awareness of wellness resources, share programs in their departments, and inspire a positive culture of well-being at USC!

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a liaison between your department and the Employee Well-Being team.
  • Engage in a minimum of two Employee Well-Being programs a year.
  • Plan a wellness activity for your team once a year. You can host the Employee Well-Being team or organize your own activity to inspire connection and health.
  • Communicate updates on wellness offerings to your department, provide feedback, and share success stories to foster a culture of well-being.

Eligibility:

  • Must be a USC-Columbia or USC-SOM Columbia Faculty or Staff

  • Participate in two yearly wellness trainings to explore topics and connect with faculty and staff.
