Health Insurance

Three health insurance plans for employees provide a range of coverage options. There are two state health plans — the Standard Plan and the State Health Savings Plan — and the Tricare Supplement Plan. Learn which plan best suits your needs.

Dental and Vision Insurance

Dental and vision insurance is increasingly harder to come by. That's why we are pleased to offer UofSC employees two options for dental coverage, as well as a competitive vision care plan.


Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) allows your health, dental and vision insurance coverage to be continued for a limited time after your or your dependents separate for qualified reasons. 

Life Insurance

Life planning can be difficult, but we all want our loved ones to be taken care of. When you enroll in either State Health Plan, you will receive some life insurance coverage at no cost to you. Learn more about the different levels of coverage options available.

Disability Insurance

For many employees, our inability to work and receive a paycheck can have grave consequences. Long term disability planning allows our employees to continue receiving crucial income to help manage the financial burden of missing work for extended periods of time. Pre-existing condition limitations apply.

Flexible Spending Accounts

For those medical and dependent care expenses that aren't covered, a flexible spending account allows you to maximize your spendable income by allowing you to pay certain costs on a pretax basis. Learn more about enrollment details and what type of expenses can be paid using your account.


If you are approaching the age of 65, the Social Security Administration should be contacting you regarding Medicare entitlements three months prior to your birthday. Medicare eligibility has many components and important deadlines, so being informed and planning ahead is the best way to avoid costly mistakes.

Cancer and Hospital Confinement

Offered as supplemental offerings outside of the State PEBA system, the USC Cancer Plan and USC Hospital Confinement Plan are administered by Colonial Life Insurance Company.

Auto and Home Insurance

Offered through the Travelers Insurance Company, employees and members of their household may purchase automobile and homeowners insurance at low, competitive rates.
