Applications being accepted for director of faculty affairs

Deadline for priority consideration has been extended to Aug. 31

The University of South Carolina invites applications and nominations for the position of director of faculty affairs.

The director will manage the tenure and promotion, tenure progress review, and post-tenure review processes for UofSC Columbia. This includes providing annual training and providing support to academic units; preparing, editing and proofing summary documents; and managing the updating and revision of academic unit tenure and promotion criteria. The director will also provide similar support for appointment, promotion and criteria review for research and clinical faculty; manage the appointment and review process for appointments with tenure or rank of professor and for named professors and endowed chairs; and provide support for the grievance process including, but not limited to, the reconsideration of the file on all administrative levels (i.e. provost and president) and providing support for the Faculty Grievance Committee as needed.

The time commitment/effort is 50 percent of a 12-month appointment and is negotiable. The successful candidate must be a professor with tenure and have a deep understanding of the tenure and promotion and other faculty-related policies. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. The director reports to the vice provost and dean of the graduate school. Faculty from all institutions of the UofSC system are encouraged to apply.

Review of applications will start Aug. 31 and will continue until a successful candidate has been selected.
