UofSC launches new COVID-19 website and community health pledge

Earlier this week, the University of South Carolina launched a new Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) website to help students, families, faculty, staff and community members better understand how the university is changing to mitigate the effects of the pandemic. The new site still includes important information to help faculty and staff prepare to return to campus and COVID-19-related messages to the campus community, alongside several helpful new features:

  • Detailed Safety Guidelines and Campus Changes: Read the campus safety requirements in detail and preview campus changes through photos and notes on expected safety behaviors in various campus spaces.
  • University Operations Planning: Review campus operations plans for the coming months and download the new, comprehensive Risk Mitigation Plan (PDF), which highlights the new policies, plans and schedules to help address the challenges that COVID-19 has brought to campus.
  • #IPledgeColumbia Campaign: University of South Carolina students, faculty and staff have a critical role in reducing the spread of COVID-19. Demonstrate your commitment to keep the University of South Carolina community in good health by taking the pledge and honoring it during the upcoming semester.

Limited Submission: Collaborative Research Grant opportunity funded by the SCRA-Academia Collaboration Team

The South Carolina Research Authority (SCRA) is requesting applications from multi-institutional, collaborative teams that will provide measurable outcomes within the scope of the Funding Opportunity. Proposals must advance commercially relevant research, develop state-wide research infrastructure or acquire equipment that will be used by multiple Research Universities (RUs), Comprehensive Teaching Universities (CTUs) and Technical Colleges (TCs) and be made available on a state-wide basis. Only RUs in South Carolina are eligible to submit applications under this funding opportunity. All applications must include collaboration with a minimum of two degree-conferring, public institutions of post-secondary education in South Carolina, which include RUs, CTUs and TCs. Collaborations among multiple RUs expand the allowable maximum award amounts. UofSC is limited to submitting two pre-applications to this competition. For consideration in our internal competition, please complete the pre-application form available here and return to Beth Herron, bherron@mailbox.sc.edu, by Monday, July 20 at 5:00 p.m. Pre-applications will be due to SCRA by September 15.

Remote NIH webinars and streaming events have broad research appeal

The National Institutes of Health offers a wide variety of web-based events of interest to researchers in the health sciences and beyond. These free events are open to the public, and accessible for deaf and hard-of-hearing attendees. Visit the NIH event calendar and use the menu on the right-hand side of the screen to search or browse by day, week or month. Upcoming events include an ongoing COVID-19 lecture series, NIH Library trainings and training events on commonly used Microsoft apps, among many others. Users may also browse and view past events through the NIH Videocast Archive.
