New faculty: Join us tomorrow for an overview of research opportunities at UofSC

Join Vice President for Research Prakash Nagarkatti, tomorrow, Friday, October 23, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. to learn about research initiatives at the university, opportunities and challenges related to interdisciplinary research and research resources available to faculty. Nagarkatti’s presentation will be followed by an open question-and-answer session. This virtual event will be presented through Blackboard Collaborate. Register here.

 

Humanities scholars are invited to join an NEH webinar next week

The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) will be conducting a webinar on funding opportunities for cultural organizations on Wednesday, October 28, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Through this session, humanities scholars interested in learning more about NEH grants will hear from one of NEH’s Senior Program Officers. The webinar will include an introduction to NEH, a brief overview of grant programs, a description of the application process and some application-writing strategies. The webinar will be presented via Microsoft Teams, using this link. A recording of the session will be available at that same link for access by potential applicants who are unable to participate in the webinar live.

 

NSF seeks future topics for Convergence Accelerator

The National Science Foundation (NSF) Convergence Accelerator issued a Request for Information (RFI) on future topics for the NSF Convergence Accelerator program to capture national-scale societal impact ideas from the global community for fiscal year 2022. The RFI kicks off of the Convergence Accelerator’s ideation process. Those who suggest selected ideas will be asked to submit a conference proposal to further develop the proposed idea and to gather insights into a final report to assist NSF in determining convergence research topics for 2022. Participants from academia, industry, government, non-profit, and other sectors are encouraged to submit their ideas at http://bit.ly/NSF-21-012. Responses to the RFI are due by November 9, 2020. NSF will host a webinar to share information about the RFI and the program’s ideation process, on Tuesday, October 27, at 2:00 p.m. Register for the webinar.

 

University Libraries to host two virtual workshops on digital research tools next week

  • What’s Your Scholarly Presence: Tuesday, October 27, 1:00 p.m. Discover ways to develop an effective scholarly presence and to promote your research for maximum visibility and impact using ResearchGate, Google Scholar, and other tools. We’ll discuss pre-publication considerations, practice techniques for promoting your work, and explore how to monitor your research impact.
  • Introduction to ICPSR: Wednesday, October 28, 2:00 p.m. ICPSR, the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research, is one of the world's largest social science data archives. During this session, learn how to create an account, search for data and download datasets.
