Congratulations to the 2021 class of Breakthrough Award recipients

Each year, the Office of the Vice President for Research honors some of the University of South Carolina’s brightest research minds with our signature slate of Breakthrough Awards—Breakthrough Leadership in Research Awards for senior faculty, Stars Awards for junior faculty and Graduate Scholars Awards for graduate students. This year, we are pleased to celebrate a new class of five Breakthrough Leadership in Research Award recipients, 12 Stars and 13 Graduate Scholars. Read more.

 

Discover UofSC to return as a virtual event for 2021

The Office of the Vice President for Research and our event partners are excited to announce that we will be hosting Discover UofSC 2021 as a virtual event on Friday, April 23, 2021. Our annual showcase of research, scholarship, creativity and leadership will feature all of the traditional components participants have come to expect from Discover UofSC, in a safe, virtual format. Registration for presenters, reviewers and exhibitors opens at noon on Wednesday, January 27. Read more.

 

Encourage students to apply for a Magellan Scholar undergraduate research grant

The Magellan Scholar undergraduate research award is open to undergraduates, all campuses, and all disciplines. Magellan Scholars receive up to $3,000 to help fund a faculty mentored research project, competing for this award with the submission of a research, scholarship or creative project proposal. Students are required to review an application video series before preparing the project description. For more information and to register for access to the video series, please see the Magellan Scholar webpage. Magellan proposals are due by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 17.

 

Sharpen your data skills with University Libraries during Love Data Week

University Libraries is offering a week full of learning opportunities around data-related skills and concepts coming up Monday through Friday, February 8 through 12. Love Data Week is an opportunity for students, faculty and staff to explore data concepts and skills, and to learn about the people on campus who can help you with data-related issues. Comment on the National Science Foundation Strategic Plan

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is beginning the process of updating its Strategic Plan. As part of that process, the Foundation invites feedback on the vision, core values, strategic goals and strategic objectives described in the current NSF Strategic Plan at http://www.nsf.gov/about/performance/strategic_plan.jsp. The NSF encourages input from faculty by Wednesday, February 10, 2021 through the website at https://www.nsf.gov/od/oia/strategicplan/feedback.jsp or by email to strategicplan@nsf.gov.
