Nominate your colleagues for 2022 Governor’s Awards for Excellence in Science

The South Carolina Academy of Sciences (SCAS) has issued the call for nominations for the 2022 Governor’s Awards for Excellence in Science. The academy is seeking nominations of individuals or teams, for four awards: the Excellence in Scientific Research award, the Young Scientist Award for Excellence in Scientific Research, the Excellence in Scientific Awareness award and the award for Excellence in Scientific Research at a Predominantly Undergraduate Institution. Faculty are invited to review award criteria, read the complete call for nominations and complete the online nomination process through the SCAS website. Complete nominations for the 2022 Governor’s Awards are due by Tuesday, December 7, 2021.

 

Learn how to turn your dissertation into a book

University Libraries and USC Press will host an online session to teach attendees how to turn a dissertation or manuscript into a scholarly book. This live session will feature a Q&A with Ehren Foley of USC Press. He'll discuss pitching your project, contract considerations, avoiding deal-breaking pitfalls and the publishing process. This free event is open to university faculty and students and the larger community. Register today for the session, which will be offered virtually on Thursday, September 30, 2021, from noon to 1:00 p.m.

 

Undergraduate students have a new research publishing opportunity with Carolina Crosstalk

The Office of Undergraduate Research encourages faculty mentors to share a unique research magazine by and for undergraduate students. Carolina Crosstalk is a fully student-run magazine where UofSC undergraduate researchers can publish their research findings, share their experiences or even get involved in magazine production as an editor, writer, designer, photographer or marketer. Check out the latest issue (pdf) and encourage your students to get involved.

 

Reminder: 2022 Breakthrough award nominations are due October 15, 2021

The Office of the Vice President for Research is seeking nominations for three Breakthrough signature awards: the Breakthrough Leadership in Research award for senior faculty, Breakthrough Stars for early-career faculty and Breakthrough Graduate Scholars for outstanding graduate students. Each of these awards has been carefully designed to recognize and honor scholarly excellence throughout the Carolina research community, providing opportunities for recognition at every career level. All 2022 Breakthrough award nominations are due by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 15, 2021.
