Arts and humanities faculty and students: Join us for a workshop on applying for NEH and NEA grants

The Office of the Vice President for Research is pleased to partner with the Humanities Collaborative to offer a 90-minute workshop on the administrative and technical aspects of applying for funding through the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). The workshop will feature a brief overview of the agencies, proposal components, etc., presented by a representative from the Office of Sponsored Awards Management, followed by an informal Q&A session with faculty members who have received funding from the NEH and NEA. The NEH and NEA Workshop will be held on Friday, April 1, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., in Gambrell Hall, room 250. Faculty members and graduate students are welcome to attend this workshop session, with no registration required.

 

Get excited, get involved: Discover UofSC 2022

The Office of the Vice President for Research is pleased to announce a new feature for Discover UofSC 2022. Instead of our traditional lunchtime keynote speech, we have a special panel video featuring a conversation among five outstanding UofSC faculty members from a wide range of research disciplines and backgrounds. The video will be launched a few weeks before Discover UofSC, and panelists will take part in the event as Distinguished Research Ambassadors on Friday, April 22, 2022. Discover UofSC organizers are currently recruiting reviewers and volunteers to support the annual spring showcase event on Friday, April 22, 2022. We encourage faculty, staff, students and postdocs to sign up today!

  • Reviewers: UofSC and Prisma Health faculty, staff, postdocs, graduate students and UofSC alumni (as well as others who are personally invited by Discover UofSC organizers) are eligible to serve as reviewers or judges, for presentations at the event. Register to serve as a reviewer by Friday, April 1.
  • Volunteers: UofSC and Prisma Health faculty, staff, postdocs, undergraduate and graduate students and UofSC alumni (as well as others who are personally invited by Discover UofSC organizers) are eligible to serve as volunteers. Volunteers receive a free boxed lunch, and can contribute in many ways for as little as an hour or two, or the whole day. Register to serve as a volunteer by Friday, April 1.

 

NSF establishes new Directorate for Technology, Innovation and Partnerships

National Science Foundation Director Sethuraman Panchanathan announced a new directorate within the NSF focused on Technology, Innovation and Partnerships, or TIP, during his session on Reinvigorating Science and Technology for the Future of U.S. Innovation. This new directorate — NSF's first in more than 30 years — builds upon the agency's commitment over seven decades to serve as a beacon of U.S. innovation, advancing the frontiers of research and education across all fields of science and engineering.
