USC joins SC Nexus consortium to apply for a prestigious Tech Hub designation

Last week, a consortium of more than 35 public and private partners led by the South Carolina Department of Commerce, collectively known as SC Nexus, applied for designation as one of the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration’s (EDA) 20 Regional Technology and Innovation Hubs (Tech Hubs). If selected as one of the Tech Hubs, SC Nexus will be eligible to apply for funding made available through the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act of 2022, which authorized $10 billion over five years for the Tech Hubs effort. As a core consortium member, USC helped to shape the SC Nexus mission to develop and commercialize new technologies for end-to-end energy generation, smart distribution and storage. In a new Post and Courier op-ed article, USC President Michael Amiridis explains the importance of advanced energy to meet growing in-state demand, and how South Carolina is poised to lead our nation’s energy future.
