The 2025 Southeast regional meeting for the Society for Developmental Biology to be held at USC, May 19-21

The 2025 Southeast regional meeting for the Society for Developmental Biology will be held at USC, May 19-21, 2025. Please consider submitting an abstract by Monday, April 21, 2025 and registering to attend by Monday, April 28, 2025. Click here to submit, register and learn more.

Drs. Mary Goll and Gerald Schatten, who study chromatin states during embryogenesis and stem cells in development and reproduction, respectively, will be the keynote speakers. In addition, there will be six research sessions covering a broad range of developmental biology, including Stem Cells and Regeneration, Epigenetics, Gene Regulation, and Cell Fate, Evolution and Environmental Adaptation, Development and Disease, Morphogenesis and Organogenesis, and Cell-Cell Communication and Signaling.  The education session will include a panel of scientists who will discuss their experiences in implementing developmental biology model systems in CUREs, or Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experiences.

 

2024-2025 SPARC Graduate Research Grants awarded to 33 graduate students

The Office of the Vice President for Research is proud to award 33 2024-2025 SPARC Graduate Research Grants to support graduate student researchers across 20 academic departments and 5 colleges and schools. This grant program is designed not only to sponsor meritorious research but to strengthen student skills for a career in research through the extramural research funding proposal process.

The Carolina Grants and Innovation Hub is available to support USC faculty working on proposals for the prestigious NSF Career Award. If you are planning to apply for a Career award in the current cycle, please reach out to Emily Devereux at devereue@mailbox.sc.edu for support with proposal development.

 

Calling all research administrators: Apply by June 2 to join STRIVE mentorship program

STRIVE Mentoring is designed to strengthen the network of research administration staff at USC, fostering professional development through mutually beneficial mentoring relationships. Through monthly mentor-mentee meetings over the course of a twelve-month work period, pairs will work together to accomplish mentee-determined goals designed to enhance research administration skills. 

We are welcoming both mentors and mentees to be considered for recruitment at this time. In order to be considered for STRIVE, you must submit an application form by Monday, June 2, 2025. Mentees will be required to submit the Self-Assessment Worksheet and the Acknowledgement from Supervisor Form as part of their applications.

 

Required research security training now available

The University of South Carolina is committed to advancing research excellence while ensuring compliance with evolving federal regulations and sponsor agency requirements. To support this goal, the Office of Research Security has launched a set of required, web-based research security training for covered individuals involved in research activities at the university. 

Research security training provides the information and guidance researchers need to understand potential threats and risks to the research ecosystem, protect sensitive research and intellectual property, and ensure compliance with U.S. government mandates, including those outlined in NSPM-33 and the CHIPS and Science Act. Learn more about this required training, who should take it and how to access it via the Research Training and Education Services website. Please note that covered individuals are required to complete all applicable training modules no later than Thursday, May 1, 2025.
