Attention Research Administrators: Last chance to RSVP for the STRIVE Awards Brunch and nominate a colleague for an award

Registration is open for the STRIVE Awards and Recognition Brunch on Thurs., Sept. 25, 2025 from 11:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and will close tomorrow, Sept. 12, 2025 at 12 p.m. Please note that registration is still required even if you have already registered for the South Carolina Research Administration Conference so that we can get a headcount.

Please also consider submitting a nomination for one of the following awards, which are also due by Sept. 12, 2025 at 12 p.m.:

  • Rookie of the Year Award
  • Excellence in Research Administration Award
  • Leadership in Research Administration Award
  • Excellence in Professional Research Staff Award

Last Call: Sign up for the Research Core Fair

The deadline has been extended to sign up for the 2025 Research Core Fair, coming up on Friday, September 19, 2025, to spotlight the wealth of resources that are available to researchers and share many updates to core services. Register to attend by Friday, September 12.

The Research Core Fair is open to all USC students, faculty, and staff. The day will feature 10-15 minute talks broken down into four focused sections. There will also be tables for each research core, posters by students and postdocs, and prizes for the best student and postdoc posters. 

 

New Monthly Grant Awards Report: August 2025

The Office of the Vice President for Research is pleased to share our monthly report listing new grant awards USC faculty researchers across the university system received between August 1 and August 31, 2025. Please note that some awards received toward the end of that period might have missed the reporting cut-off. In such cases, the award will be listed in the next monthly report. Sign up for Savannah River National Laboratory Day at USC

The Savannah River National Laboratory in collaboration with the University of South Carolina invites undergraduate students, graduate students, along with faculty and staff who mentor STEM students to join us for SRNL Day on Wednesday, October 1, in the Russell House Ballroom. Participants are invited to explore internships, discover postdoctoral positions, engage in panel discussions and more. Advance registration is required by September 19, 2025.

 

Faculty: Encourage your undergraduate students to apply for grant funding

Application deadlines for grant funding through the Office of Undergraduate Research are coming up in October. Now is the time for undergraduates and mentors to review available grants to determine eligibility.

Magellan Scholar proposals are due in USCeRA by Wednesday, October 8, at 5:00 p.m. Undergraduate Research Mini-Grant applications are due by Tuesday, October 21 at 5:00pm. Grants associated with Living Learning Communities on the Columbia campus have been reenvisioned and streamlined; these grants are now called the Undergraduate Research Campus Partner Grant and have a deadline of Tuesday, October 21 at 5:00pm.

Call for Abstracts from Big Data Health Science Center

The University of South Carolina Big Data Health Science Center invites you to submit abstracts for oral and poster presentations at the 7th National Big Data Health Science Conference, to be held February 12-13th, 2026, in Columbia, SC. The submission deadline is Friday, November 14, 2025. See here for more details.

 

Take advantage of research support with USC Libraries

University Libraries is pleased to offer free in-person and virtual support for USC Columbia faculty, students, and staff working with research data. Services available include exploratory data analysis, statistical tests, SPSS, R and RStudio, Python, MATLAB, Excel and Excel Macro, and C programming language. To learn more and make an appointment, visit the service webpage here. Libraries is also offering workshops on a wide array of topics to all members of the University of South Carolina community.
