Printing

CAS Computing Center is equipped with six printers that perform different tasks. Everything from a ten-page paper, to a Photoshop project or a research poster, can be printed at the Computer Lab. Below is a price guide for printing, followed by payment methods and policies.

If you have any questions, view the FAQ on printing or call the Help Desk at 777-7840.

Payment Methods:

Printouts made to the Black and White laser printers and Color printers will be charged to users through Pay for Print. When you are logged into the computer with your network username and select "Print", your Carolina Card general fund account will be debited the appropriate amount of money. This will reduce the number of transactions made at the Help Desk and increase the speed and efficiency of printout dissemination during peak hours. Credit can be added to your Carolina Card with Credit Card at my.sc.edu in $10 increments and will be credited within half an hour. Money can be added to your Carolina Card via any Automatic Deposit Machine (ADM).  If you have any questions about Pay for Print, please see a Help Desk staff member.

Our plotters do not use Pay for Print. Plots must be paid for with your Carolina Card at the Help Desk.

Faculty and students authorized to bill a university account must have the correct form filled out in its entirety and signed by either the chair, dean, or business/ office manager of the department. We require this form because we must have authorization from the appropriate person in order to collect funds. If you have any questions please contact the help desk. Please inform the Help Desk of the charge prior to printing. Exceptions will not be made.

You may fill the form out before printing, however, an authorized signature is required. Bring the printed form with you to make prints.  Download the departmental charge form [PDF].

Printing Policies:

Please perform a "Print Preview" prior to printing. Since we operate on a cost-recovery basis, all printouts must be paid for, even if you do not want the printout or made a mistake. A "Print Preview" will allow you to view the final printed output before sending the job.

All printouts are to be used for non-profit/educational use. Color printer output is limited to 10 copies. We are not a high volume production print shop. Printing must be done within reason, and volume copies must be done at a commercial print shop. It is against state law to use the computers, printers or software programs of the University of South Carolina for any commercial/profit purposes. Suspected violators will be reported to campus police for investigation.

We cannot print on paper that you provide on our printers. If you require special paper for printing (i.e. rag paper for thesis/dissertation or a letterhead) you will need to use a commercial printing company. You may print out an original here on our paper and then have the commercial printing company photocopy it to your specialty paper.

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
