Clinical Pharmacy and Outcomes Sciences

The Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Outcomes Sciences in the College of Pharmacy provides education and training related to professional practice, including application of the pharmaceutical sciences to patient care.

About the Department

The Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Outcomes Sciences encompasses two distinct fields, clinical pharmacy and outcome sciences, both of which embody the strong relationship between pharmacy and patient care.

While outcome scientists focus on making existing drugs more effective, our clinical pharmacists apply the outcomes to patient care. When the handoff is performed seamlessly, we make a significant impact on both practitioners and patients who rely so heavily on medicine as part of essential treatment and health care needs.

Faculty members in CPOS are engaged in teaching, practice, service and research that impact clinical therapeutics, professional practice, evaluation of drug health policies, and pharmacy education. Our faculty have been recognized nationally and internationally for their achievements and are committed to the advancement of pharmacy education, practice, and research. Collectively, department faculty have numerous awards and recognitions, teaching innovations, clinical advances, and research developments in the outcomes sciences.

Clinical pharmacists have graduated from pharmacy school and have completed post-graduate training to specialize in areas such as cardiology, geriatrics, oncology or pediatrics, to name a few.

At the College of Pharmacy, our clinical pharmacy faculty teach students in a classroom setting, conduct research and also demonstrate hands-on patient care by allowing students to observe rounding on patients.

Once a drug is created, outcome scientists determine how to make it better. Some areas of outcome science research include:

  • Pharmacoepidemiology
  • Pharmacoeconomics
  • Health services research
  • Medication safety
  • Clinical translational sciences
  • Pharmacokinetics

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
