The College of Pharmacy congratulates Donna J. Walker, ‘79, pharmacy, ‘85 MBA, who will be celebrated this week during UofSC Homecoming ceremonies as the university’s 2022 Distinguished Alumni.
Walker is incredibly honored to be chosen for this distinction and cherishes her deep connection to the College of Pharmacy as well as the university.
I feel so blessed to have received the gift of a great education, a meaningful profession, and strong relationships through the University of South Carolina.
“From attending Women’s Basketball Final Four Championship games with my mom and serving on capital campaign advisory committees to time spent with the Walker Leadership Scholars, I am a proud Gamecock!
“When entering pharmacy school, my dad emphasized that you are not just obtaining a degree but entering a profession, and with that comes a responsibility to your patients, your colleagues and those that would follow in your footsteps. In accepting these responsibilities came many unexpected rewards - forming deep professional and personal friendships that have grown for decades is one of the most treasured. Not only were my father and brother pharmacists, but my husband and father-in law are too. Additionally, the College of Pharmacy has given me the opportunity to mentor the next generation of pharmacy leaders. These young professionals are so inspiring with their creativity, curiosity, and deep commitment to excellence as well as their goals to improve the communities they serve.
“Again, I am extremely honored and humbled by this recognition. I feel so blessed to have received the gift of a great education, a meaningful profession, and strong relationships through the University of South Carolina. The words to our alma mater ring true to me today, “We hail thee Carolina, and sing thy high praise. With loyal devotion, remembering the days. When proudly we sought thee, thy children to be. Here’s a health, Carolina, forever to thee!”
