SCSHP provides free membership to USC Pharmacy students

The South Carolina Society of Health-System Pharmacists is offering free membership to all University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy students.

Eric Chmielewski, president of SCSHP, believes it is important that students become involved early to helps set the stage for professional engagement throughout their careers, as the next generation of pharmacists is critical to shaping and advancing the pharmacy profession.

“Our goal is that membership will help students explore clinical and health system pharmacy careers, consider the state’s numerous residency and post-graduate programs as excellent opportunities to advance their careers, and network with SCSHP pharmacist members across the state,” he says. "We want the voices of our state's pharmacy students at the table."

Our goal is that membership will help students explore clinical and health system pharmacy careers ... We want the voices of our state's pharmacy students at the table.

Morgan West, a third-year student and SCSHP junior board member, says providing membership will make it easier for students to get involved with SCSHP.

"Being able to attend events, connect with pharmacists from across the state, and learn more about pharmacy practice within our state has helped me grow both personally and professionally," she says.

Natalia Valenti, a member of the Class of 2028 and fellow junior board member with West, is excited that students can now access everything SCSHP offers at no cost.

"I have truly learned so much as a student member of SCSHP, and I am so grateful to be part of an organization that prioritizes student development and involvement," she adds.

The partnership will strengthen the connection between USC's pharmacy students and the broader pharmacist community across South Carolina.

Jordan Ballou, associate dean for student affairs, is grateful for SCSHP's generosity in extending complimentary membership to every student in the Pharm.D. program.

"This gift reflects SCSHP's genuine investment in our students' professional growth, giving them early access to networking, mentorship, and leadership opportunities within the health-system pharmacy community well before they graduate," Ballou notes. "We are proud to partner with SCSHP in preparing our students for meaningful careers in the profession."
