Microsoft Defender for Endpoint

USC Requirement

USC requires that all computers connected to the university network have antivirus software installed and updated.

Microsoft Defender for Endpoint is Microsoft’s modern endpoint security suite. It is more than just an antivirus, and it is also more than an EDR solution. Combined with other security features and products in Microsoft 365, it becomes a catalyst that powers your security operations and significantly boosts your security posture.

Microsoft Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) is a solution that monitors and collects information about activities that are performed on (through) a device. Such activities can include lots of things, including reading, creating, and modifying files, processes, registry keys, and more. Protection for server and mobile devices are included.

Microsoft Defender for Endpoint consists of several features, including:

  • Microsoft Defender Antivirus
  • Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR)
  • Automated Investigation and Remediation (AIR)
  • Attack Surface Reduction
  • Threat and Vulnerability Management
  • Microsoft Threat Experts

Microsoft Defender for Endpoint is currently supported on the following platforms:

  • Windows (7, 8.1, 10)
  • Windows Sever (2012 R2, 2016, 2019)
  • macOS
  • iOS 11.0 and later
  • Android 6.0 and later
  • Linux

It is important to understand that not all features are available on all platforms. Obviously, the full functionality is available on Windows 10 and Windows Server 2019. From there, however, things degrade and depend on the version of the operating system of platform that you use.

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
