Faculty Event: Town hall meeting with Lewis-Burke Associates

The University of South Carolina has retained the services of Lewis-Burke Associates, a leading full-service government relations firm that specializes in advocating for the public policy interests of higher education institutions. Lewis-Burke will offer the university a variety of services like helping to match faculty with federal funding opportunities, and the agency has a broad portfolio ranging from STEM and health sciences to the liberal arts and humanities. The Office of the Vice President for Research is excited to invite faculty members from all system campuses to join us for an introductory town hall meeting with representatives from Lewis-Burke. This initial meeting will be held on Thursday, February 16, from 10:00 a.m. to noon, in Lumpkin Auditorium (and livestreamed for those who cannot attend in person). The meeting will be geared toward USC faculty, and will consist of a presentation by representatives from Lewis-Burke Associates, followed by time for Q&A. All USC faculty (all campuses) are invited to register with a valid USC email address, and join us in person or virtually for this introductory town hall. Read more.

 

2022-2023 SPARC Graduate Research Grants fund research, scholarly and creative projects 

The Office of the Vice President for Research is excited to award 49 2022-2023 SPARC Graduate Research Grants to support graduate student researchers across nine University of South Carolina academic units. These SPARC recipients will use their funding to engage in research, scholarly and creative projects over a 15-month period beginning this May. Through SPARC, or Support to Promote Advancement of Research and Creativity, graduate students compete for internal funding of up to $5,000 to support their meritorious research, creative and scholarly projects. This process offers the possibility of funding along with valuable experience in the process of applying for sponsored awards. Read more about the 2023 SPARC recipients.

 

Last Chance: Nominate your colleagues for the Exceptional Research Service Awards

The Office of the Vice President for Research is now accepting nominations for the research awards program, the Exceptional Research Service Awards. This program, consisting of three distinct honors, is designed to recognize outstanding research support staff who provide top-notch service to USC’s faculty and student researchers every day. With award categories for research administrators and technical research staff, the Exceptional Research Service Awards will provide recognition and an honorarium for deserving professionals. Nominations are due by Monday, February 6, at 5:00 p.m. Check out the program page for more details on how to submit nominations.

 

Researchers at USC: Sign up for ResearchMatch

The Office of the Vice President for Research is excited to announce USC’s new partnership with ResearchMatch. ResearchMatch brings together people who are trying to find research studies and researchers who are looking for people to participate in their health-related studies. The program makes it easy for researchers to connect with volunteers and further their research projects. USC faculty/researchers from all campuses, including both School of Medicine campuses, are eligible to use ResearchMatch for recruitment of volunteers. 2023 ASPIRE Q&A Session coming up tomorrow

The Office of the Vice President for Research is pleased to announce a virtual question and answer session for the 2023 Advanced Support for Innovative Research Excellence (ASPIRE) program. The Q&A session will be held tomorrow, Friday, February 3, at 1:30 p.m. via Microsoft Teams. Please register for the session here or join the session through the ASPIRE program page (registration is not required). Countdown to Discover USC 2023, coming up on Friday, April 21

Discover USC, hosted by the Office of the Vice President for Research, showcases research, scholarship, leadership and creative projects by undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral scholars and medical scholars representing the entire USC System. Registration for undergraduate and graduate students, postdocs and medical scholars is now open and will close Friday, March 3, 2023. We invite faculty, staff, graduate students and postdocs to register to serve as reviewers for Discover USC and help students to grow their scholarly and professional development skills. Volunteers are also vital to Discover USC and making sure the exciting event runs smoothly. All faculty, staff and students are welcome to register to volunteer from as little as one hour to the entire day. Registration to serve as a reviewer or volunteer is now open and both registration form with close Friday, March 24, 2023. We encourage everyone across the USC system to get involved with Discover USC and be a part of the biggest research event at the university!
