Complexions Contemporary Dance to Offer Master Classes

Dancers from the innovative contemporary ballet company Complexions will teach master classes in our studios March 1 ahead of their Koger performance March 2.

Before they take the stage at the Koger Center for the Arts on March 2, the talented dancers of Complexions Contemporary Ballet will be in residence at the University of South Carolina.

On March 1, dancers from the internationally-renowned company will teach master classes at the UofSC dance studios for university dance students as well as select middle and high school students from the Midlands of SC.  Workshop relating to Complexions' repertory and performance style, as well as topics such as improvisation and composition will be offered.  Classes are not open to the public.

Established in 1994 by Dwight Rhoden and Desmond Richardson, Complexions is considered "America's original multicultural dance company," celebrated for its pioneering choreography and a passion for diversity in its company and programming.

"Complexions makes it sensationally, jaw-droppingly clear that we live in the age of the super dancer, at a time with technical virtuosity is being redefined as an expressive state." -- Dance Magazine

Through the sponsorship of the SC Summer Dance Conservatory, Complexions will perform at the Koger Center March 2 at 7pm.  Scheduled for the evening's repertory is Star Dust, an homage to rock idol David Bowie that has been generating national headlines since its premiere in June, 2016.  Also planned are Strum (set to music from the heavy metal band Metallica), Ballad Unto..., a neoclassical ballet set to the music of Bach, and excerpts from Complexions favorites Gone, Lament, American Pie, and Ave Maria.

Tickets for the performance are $40 for orchestra seating, $35 for the grand tier, and $20 for the balcony. Tickets are available by calling the Koger Center box office at 803-777-5112, or by purchasing online at www.kogercenterforthearts.com.

Following the performance, there will be a fabulous reception in the 2nd floor Koger Center Donor Room, featuring music by the Gardner Jazz Ensemble and catering by Contemplate. It will be an elegant event in which the dancers of Complexions Contemporary Ballet will be in attendance. Reception tickets include orchestra seating and are available for $75. Please call 803-777-5636 or email dance@sc.edu to reserve.
