The COBRE Center for Targeted Therapeutics at the USC College of Pharmacy recently hosted its annual two-day symposium, showcasing the groundbreaking work conducted through the COBRE Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence program and featuring presentations from former trainees from around the country along with poster sessions and lectures.
During the symposium, founding director Igor Roninson was recognized for his role in establishing and developing CTT.
Under Roninson's leadership, CTT assembled an interdisciplinary team spanning multiple USC colleges and recruited numerous young faculty members focused on therapeutics research. The center established three resource cores that have supported biomedical research -the Functional Genomics Core, the Drug Design and Synthesis Core, and the Microscopy and Flow Cytometry Core.

Roninson noted the unexpected impact of CTT's resources during the COVID-19 pandemic, when core facilities helped establish critical viral testing capabilities for the state, demonstrating the center's broader significance beyond traditional research boundaries.
Roninson emphasized the transformative impact of the center on USC's research landscape.
"The opportunity to start the COBRE Center for Targeted Therapeutic was transformative for the USC chapter of my life," he said. "The CTT made it possible to instill the appreciation for translational research among many of my colleagues in biomedical sciences, motivating them to prioritize the research aimed at patient treatment over purely basic science."
