Background

Shannon Means has over 20 years of leadership experience primarily in higher education as well as public service settings and state government. She has direct collaborative experience with various groups; including higher education leaders, students, and faculty as well as business and industry leaders, state agency leaders, legislators, faith-based groups, and nonprofits. Shannon is knowledgeable in many facets of higher education and has extensive experience in strategic analysis, planning, and consensus building among various stakeholder groups. She has held leadership positions in an academic college, in a research office and as an executive level staff member for multiple vice presidents. Her own experience as a first-generation college student combined with extensive work in P-16 educational settings fuels her dedication to innovation and collaboration to create pathways to education and success for all students.

She received her B.A in English from Morehead State University in 1992, a master’s in Public Administration from Eastern Kentucky University in 1996 and continued her studies in Higher Education Policy at the University of Kentucky.
