A message from the Interim Chair
Welcome to the Department of Environmental Health Sciences in the Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina.
Our department is dedicated to understanding how the environment shapes human health and to using that knowledge to protect communities, inform decisions and improve lives. From air and water quality to toxic exposures, climate-related hazards, infectious disease surveillance, environmental justice and community resilience, our work addresses some of the most pressing public health challenges of our time.

I am proud to lead a department with outstanding faculty, staff and students whose expertise spans laboratory science, field research, exposure assessment, toxicology, environmental microbiology, epidemiology, data science and public health practice. What makes our department especially strong is our commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and to translating rigorous science into meaningful impact for communities in South Carolina and beyond.
Students who join ENHS can expect rigorous training, close mentorship and opportunities to engage with real-world environmental health problems. Whether pursuing an MPH, M.S. or Ph.D., they become part of a supportive academic community that prepares them for leadership in research, public health practice, government, industry, consulting, nonprofit organizations and academia.
