Welcome from the Chair
Welcome to the Department of Exercise Science at the University of South Carolina.
Our work sits at the intersection of human health, movement, and performance. We advance science that helps people live healthier, move better, recover more fully, and perform at their best in settings ranging from chronic disease prevention and management to rehabilitation, physical activity, and high performance.
The department is distinguished by a world-class faculty whose expertise spans applied physiology, physical activity and public health, sport science and performance nutrition, rehabilitation, athletic training, biomechanics, neuroscience, and related disciplines. Our faculty members are recognized leaders in their fields, advancing new knowledge while bringing that knowledge to bear in clinical, community, tactical, and high-performance settings.
Students who join our department become part of that work. They learn from faculty at the forefront of the field, gain hands-on experience with modern research methods and technology, collaborate across disciplines, and develop the skills to turn evidence into meaningful application. We are committed to preparing scientists, clinicians, and practitioners who are capable of asking important questions and leading meaningful change.
For more than two decades, our Ph.D. program has consistently been ranked among the top five exercise science doctoral programs in the United States by the National Academy of Kinesiology. We also continue to be among the top-ranked sport science universities in the US. That legacy reflects the caliber of our faculty, students, and alumni, who make an impact in universities, health care, industry, sport, and communities around the world.
Looking ahead, we remain focused on expanding our reach, strengthening collaboration, and tackling the questions that will shape the future of exercise science. If you are ready to explore human potential and use science to make a difference, you will find an ambitious, supportive, and collaborative home here.
Forever to Thee. Welcome home!
