Federal TEACH Grant

The updated list of qualified programs is typically available from the U.S. Department of Education near the beginning of a semester, so it is often necessary for the College of Education Gamecock EdQuarters office to keep a waiting list of all students interested in the TEACH Grant. Students on the waiting list will be notified after Financial Aid has received the qualified programs list.

The TEACH Grant requires you to teach in the U.S. in both a critical need subject and critical need geographic area. The critical list for the TEACH Grant is different from the list for the South Carolina Teachers / Career Changers Loan and is updated each year.

Application Process

You can view information about the TEACH grant here: https://studentaid.gov/understand-aid/types/grants/teach. Note that you must complete the FAFSA in order to be considered for the TEACH grant. Below are the steps to apply.

  • Contact Gamecock EdQuarters at 803-777-6732 or coestudy@mailbox.sc.edu to indicate your interest and learn if you are in an eligible major to apply for the TEACH Grant program.
  • The next step is to complete the online counseling portion of the Federal Student Aid Office’s website regarding the TEACH grant.
  • After you have completed this online counseling with specifics about the program, we will send you the link to the USC TEACH grant certification form to indicate your interest. You should complete the online form as indicated. When you sign the form and submit it, the Gamecock EdQuarters office will be notified that the form is waiting for them to review.
  • The Financial Aid office is notified when the Gamecock EdQuarters office has completed the form, and they complete the final stage of processing.
