Research and Teaching Interests

Dr. Flax's research focuses on the evaluation of large-scale nutrition programs, design and testing of innovative behavior change communication interventions to improve infant and young child feeding practices, and implementation research related to maternal and child health programs globally and in the US. She has developed innovative tools for measuring food choices and food environments in low-resource settings. She provides technical assistance to programs on developing theories of change, designing indicators to measure program implementation and impact, selection and implementation of survey and evaluation methodologies, and using evidence to inform program design and adaptation.
