Research and Teaching Interests

Erin Smolak is the director of the Child Language Outcomes and Disorders (CLOuD) Lab. Her research focuses on the development of language and cognition (e.g., attention, working memory) from toddlerhood to the early school years in typically developing children and children with language disorders. Dr. Smolak is particularly interested in language development in children with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD).The goal of her research is to understand the underlying deficits of DLD using behavioral and eye tracking methodologies as well as to inform methods of early identification and intervention.
