Research and Teachings

Dr. Yang's research focuses on understanding the physical, psychosocial, and behavioral aspects of HIV infection among diverse vulnerable populations (e.g., men who have sex with men) and reducing the disparities of health outcomes of people affected by HIV in both China and US settings using qualitative and quantitative approach. In the past several years, using either statewide (e.g., South Carolina HIV cohort) or nationwide electronic health record data (e.g., National COVID Cohort Collaborative or All of Us program), she has been actively engaged in using data science approach in HIV and COVID-19 related research, such as evaluate the COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness among people with HIV and racial/ethnic disparities in HIV care continuum outcomes (e.g., linkage to care, retention in care, viral suppression).
