Kristen Harrell

Kristin Harrell is an instructional designer with the Center for Teaching Excellence at USC where she helps others develop skills for incorporating engagement, technology, and creativity into their instructional approaches. Her current interests focus on active learning, emerging tech, and game-based learning in student-centered education. Harrell is available to help faculty in whatever they need to feel confident and supported in their teaching; she is dedicated to helping educators communicate to students in accessible, engaging, and innovative ways.

Harrell has a Ph.D. in English Literature and a B.F.A. from USC. She also has a M.A. in Cultural Studies from the University of New Mexico and a Graduate Certificate in Women and Gender Studies. In her free time, she continues to explore the potential for cultural pursuits, both old and new, to build connection with others. She translates Middle English, paints, and collects vintage cameras, maps, and books. She also builds academic websites, consults on Digital Humanities projects, and plays all the RPG video games. Harrell appreciates that whether you’re analog or digital, CTE has people here who can help you expand your teaching toolbox!
