Don't Fall for Scam That Impersonates the IRS

The Internal Revenue Service states that individuals with “.edu” email addresses should be aware of an email scam that is affecting university employees and college students across the nation.

A fraudulent email displays the IRS logo and uses subject lines such as “Tax Refund Payment” or “Recalculation of your tax refund payment.” Recipients are asked to click a link and submit a form to claim their refund. They are asked to submit personal information such as social security number, first and last name, date or birth, and more.

Taxpayers who believe they have a pending refund should NOT fall for this scam. Refund status can be checked by visiting “Where’s My Refund?” on IRS.gov.

People who receive this scam email should forward it to phishing@irs.gov.

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
