Biography 

After 9 years of teaching at the middle level and 21 years of secondary administration, Roy Blakeney recently joined the College of Education as the Clinical Placement Coordinator for the Middle Level and Secondary Education Programs within Gamecock EdQuarters. Roy began his career in District Five of Lexington and Richland Counties as a middle school teacher and administrator and served the last 19 years in as an assistant principal at Dreher High School in Richland County School District One. 

While at Dreher High School, Roy served as the University of South Carolina College of Education Professional Development School (PDS) Network school-based administrator. During this time, he developed a passion for supporting, coaching, and mentoring new faculty, working with student interns, developing and facilitating professional development activities, and collaborating on teacher development.

Roy’s research and professional interests include supporting pre-service and certified teachers throughout the USC Professional Development School Network, as well as the College of Education’s vast additional school/district partners. Roy is always excited to share his passion of teaching and learning.

Roy earned his Bachelor of degree from Clemson University and earned both his Master of Education and Education Specialist’s degrees from the University of South Carolina’s College of Education. Roy is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Teaching and Learning at USC.
