Why are you passionate about civil engineering?
“I am passionate about civil engineering because it directly improves infrastructure in our cities and communities and impacting lives on a large scale. Civil engineers help create safer, more efficient environments, and knowing that my work can benefit so many people is incredibly motivating.”
What experiences as a student do you think are preparing you for a successful career in civil engineering?
“My internship experiences [at Civiltech Engineering, Inc.] have been especially valuable in preparing me for a career in civil engineering. I have had the opportunity to work both on-site and in design roles in Chicago, which exposed me to a wide range of projects. These experiences allowed me to apply classroom knowledge to real-world situations and gain understanding of the field.”
Why do you believe that civil engineering is the best fit for your skills and interests?
“Civil engineering is a strong fit for my skills and interests because it focuses on problem-solving specific to real-world challenges. Although the work can be challenging, the results make it rewarding and that sense of purpose is what draws me to civil engineering.”
Was there a faculty or staff member at the college who has had a significant impact on your studies? If so, what positive impact have they made on your time at the college?
“Former Dean [Ruth] Patterson had a significant impact on my academic journey. She provided tremendous support throughout my studies, especially as a transfer student. Her guidance made my transition to USC smooth and worthwhile, and her encouragement played a major role in my success and confidence as a civil engineering student.”
