New Faculty Q&A: Mary Hansen, Ph.D.

Tell us a bit about yourself

My name is Mary Hansen I am a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Educational and Developmental Science. I’m joining USC after two decades as a faculty member at Robert Morris University near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I also worked as a Research Associate at the University of Pittsburgh for the Pennsylvania Alternate System of Assessment (PASA). I earned my Ph.D. in Research Methodology from the University of Pittsburgh.

 

What will you be doing as a faculty member?

I will be teaching graduate courses in research methods and assessment.  

 

What is your area of research expertise?

My recent research has focused on advancing access, opportunity to learn, and teaching and assessment practices for students with disabilities.

 

How do you spend your time outside of work?

I spend a lot of time outside of work coaching girls youth volleyball. I also love to hike, travel, and visit my adult daughters as often as possible.

 

What are you currently reading, watching, or listening to?

I’m a big fan of Hallmark movies and generally check that channel first. I'm also currently watching a lot of college volleyball!

 

What is your advice for current students?

Take advantage of the numerous resources available on campus! There are many organizations, activities, and experiences for you to take part in. Be sure to engage in a few and enjoy your time here as a student.
