SC TEACHER to pilot survey studying school administrator experiences

In January 2026, the SC Administrator Working Conditions Survey (SCAWCS) will open for school administrators in participating districts throughout South Carolina. Building upon the success of the SC Teacher Working Conditions Survey (conducted by SC TEACHER every other year), this complementary study will study the experiences of school administrators and provide districts with actionable data. Research examined in the aggregate from this survey can then be utilized to support statewide efforts to strengthen leadership effectiveness, improve working conditions, and retain high-quality leaders.

What it is:

  • Modeled after the SC Teacher Working Conditions Survey, the SCAWCS will capture South Carolina-specific data from school administrators related to job demands, resources, satisfaction, and intent to stay in the profession.
  • Upon the conclusion of the survey, SC TEACHER will publish a report of state-level results, adding to their growing body of research on educator working conditions.
  • School districts meeting the minimum reporting threshold will also receive confidential district-level reports, which can help support strategic planning at the district level.

Why it matters:

Findings from the SCAWCS can help capture a more complete picture of educator experiences and school environments throughout our state, complementing existing teacher-focused data with administrator insights. This research can also support state and district leaders in identifying predictors of leadership sustainability while informing policy on leadership, professional development, and the educator pipeline.
