Current Programs

The Museum of Education sponsors annual exhibits, educational programs, and research institutes. The museum serves a variety of audiences including University of South Carolina students, faculty, and staff; local educators; local P-12 students; and the general public.

Faculty Guest Curator Program

The Guest Curator Program seeks to provide an opportunity for faculty members to experiment outside of traditional boundaries to share and disseminate their scholarship.  The program contributes to the College of Education’s stated desire to become a leader in educational innovation and transformation.

Fearless: Septima Clark Youth Exhibition Program

As part of its community outreach efforts, the Museum of Education sponsors Fearless: The Septima Clark Mobile Exhibition Program. The program seeks to engage African American girls in a meaningful museum studies experience.

Project CHAANGE (Counternarratives for the History of African Americans Needing and Getting Emancipated)

Project CHAANGE is a multiple-day professional development experience for P-12 teachers. It is a collaborative effort by the Museum of Education and the Center for the Education and Equity of African American Students. Project CHAANGE is also funded by a grant from the South Carolina Department of Education.

Remember: A Critical Moments Exhibition

Museum of Education Director Toby Jenkins, Ph.D. is co-leading a national team of professional and graduate student curators in developing the exhibition, Remember: 1968. This is an interactive exhibit that highlights a timeline of the year 1968, with particular emphasis on the sociopolitical contexts of higher education and campus activism.

Witten Lecture and Documentary Award: Joan Trumpauer Mulholland “An Ordinary Hero” Tuesday, March 26, 2019, 5:30 p.m.

This event brings filmmakers who have prepared documentaries on education and history in the American southeast to campus.
