Integrated Material Assessment and Predictive Simulation Laboratory (i-MAPS)

Description: i-MAPS research primarily focuses on predictive understanding of acoustics and ultrasonic waves in engineered materials, metamaterials, and biomaterials. At i-MAPS, ultrasonic waves are used for nondestructive evaluation (NDE), structural health monitoring (SHM), multi-scale material characterization of engineered materials, nuclear materials, and biomaterials. Acoustics coupled with the physics of smart materials are used for energy harvesting, design of sensor and devices for engineering and biomedical applications. Other novel areas include biomimetics and bio-origami using ultrasound.
