Remembering Diane Monrad, Ph.D.

The College of Education is celebrating the life of Diane Monrad, Ph.D. and her more than 30-year commitment as a dedicated faculty member. Monrad served as the director of the South Carolina Educational Policy Center and was a research associate professor. Her extensive research was vital in changing the performance of schools across the state. Monrad was a dedicated leader to her staff at the Policy Center and colleagues across the College of Education. She was an extraordinary mentor and role-model to young professionals and graduate students. Watching her students thrive and progress professionally brought her much joy. She was always available to assist new faculty and young professionals in navigating the university system.

Monrad possessed a wealth of knowledge, wisdom and experience that was well recognized in the state education community. Both novice and seasoned education professionals sought her advice and counsel. She was trustworthy and supportive – always willing to listen and give constructive feedback, even when it was hard to hear. She never faltered in her passion for public education in South Carolina. The College of Education family mourns her loss and celebrates the person who consistently gave her best to our college. Monrad’s family has established a scholarship fund in her honor, allowing her legacy to continue to impact our college and its students.
