Tell us a bit about yourself:
My name is Morgan Eckenrod, and I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational and Developmental Science. I have a Ph.D. in Kinesiology and Sport Studies from the University of Tennessee, a master's degree in Sport Leadership from Miami University, and a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Slippery Rock University where I competed on the cross country and track and field teams.
What will you be doing as a faculty member?
I will be teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Sport Psychology in addition to conducting research, engaging in service opportunities, and mentoring students.
What is your area of research expertise?
My research agenda focuses on sport psychology service provision, specifically on perceptions of and experiences with sport psychology services and how mental performance consultants can work with athletic department personnel (e.g., interprofessional team members, athletic administrators, and coaches) to best meet student-athlete needs.
How do you spend your time outside of work?
When I am not working, you can find me out running, walking my golden retriever, Cooper, and spending time with my husband, Drew, Cooper, and our two cats, Rocky and Creed. On the weekends, we love to take Cooper out for a long walk and afterwards we will stop and try different local coffee shops. When we aren't out and about we love to watch sports!
What are you currently reading, watching or listening to?
Currently, I enjoy watching shows such as Chicago PD and Chicago Fire in addition to any and all sports however, I am very dialed in when the NHL season begins as I am a huge Pittsburgh Penguin fan! When I am not watching tv shows or sports, I regularly listen to the Huberman Lab while I am out running or walking!
What is your advice for current students?
My advice to students is to get involved as much as you can during your academic career. Whether it is working on campus, assisting faculty with research, or joining campus organizations, I believe engaging in these opportunities will help in shaping your academic experience and future careers.
