USC Lancaster reopened for in-person classes on August 20, 2020. Face coverings are required on-campus and social distancing is encouraged among members of the campus community. The semester will be offered in an accelerated format, with in-person instruction ending on Nov. 24. In addition, classes will be held on many traditional holidays and breaks to allow for the semester to end earlier than usual. Classes will be held remotely on General Election Day (Nov. 3), Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. Fall break will also be cancelled with face-to-face instruction being held on Oct. 15-16. Prof. Hassell teaches Beginning Spanish I, II, Elementary Spanish and Basic Proficiency in Spanish regularly.  Coursework is also offered in Spanish 209/210.   In addition to the Spanish language courses, Prof. Hassell serves as the Instructor for PEDU 122 (Volleyball).  A graduate of Wofford College, '91 and USC Graduate School '01, Prof. Hassell has been here at USCL since 1997.  He coordinates the foreign language placement testing for USCL.  He has participated in travel study abroad and also is active with committee work on various levels within the USC System and advises Spanish Majors and CAP students.  Prof. Hassell is eager to help students with their second language acquisition and with general success in college.
