Bio

Evan Nooe is an Assistant Professor of History at the University of South Carolina Lancaster. He earned his Ph.D. in history from the University of Mississippi and has a MA in History from Clemson University and a degrees in Psychology and History from the University of Florida.He has taught courses on American and World history, southern culture, foodways, and tourism. His research and writing examine Southeastern Native American history, memory and violence, food in the South, and tourism history (especially Walt Disney World). Dr. Nooe serves as a Content Editor for The Journal of Florida Studies and as Book Review Editor for H-AmIndian. His publications have appeared in Native South, Ethnohistory, The Southern Quarterly, and The Journal of Tourism History. Nooe’s first book titled Aggression and Sufferings: Settler Violence, Native Resistance, and the Coalescence of the Old South examines the role of settler violence against Indigenous Southerners as formative to the American South and will be available from the University of Alabama Press fall 2023.
