Leigh Pate, Clinical Assistant Professor

Bio

I am a native of Heath Springs, SC. I received my first bachelor’s degree from Winthrop University in Healthcare Management. I then earned my bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees from USC.

My clinical background includes critical care, psychiatry, pediatrics, hospice, telehealth, school-based health centers, acute care, and primary care. Each area has allowed me to grow as a practitioner while serving many unique patient populations. I currently practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner in primary care for indigent patients as well as care for students enrolled in school-based health centers.

I’ve taught numerous courses for the College of Nursing, including pre-nursing, informatics, health assessment, fundamentals, medical-surgical, evidence-based practice, senior capstone, multiple clinical experiences, graduate nursing theory, and acute health problems for FNP students. I enjoy being involved with the Lancaster cohort of the BSN program while teaching Columbia campus students.

I am a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, National League of Nursing, American Nurses Association, South Carolina Nurses Association, Rural Nurse Organization, and Sigma Theta Tau- Alpha Xi chapter.

Go Gamecocks!
