Mentor Match

Our annual mentoring program pairs alumni with students interested in their particular field. Alumni and students across the college are encouraged to participate. This year-long program kicks off with a matching event each fall.

Mentor Match 2017

On Thursday, September 7, 2017, students from the College of Information and Communications will gather for a chance to develop professional connections with alumni, begin building their networks and get coached by industry leaders. Match Night will kick-off with a 5:30 p.m. presentation for students, followed by matching from 6-7 p.m. The event will be held in room 318 of the School of Journalism and Mass Communications at 800 Sumter Street.

Throughout the year, students and their alumni mentors will check in with each other, discuss their industry, schedule job shadowing and more. Each month will have a theme to help steer the conversation.

While the majority of our mentoring relationships are within Columbia, we welcome and encourage alumni living in other parts of the country to participate.

This year’s program is open to juniors and seniors in the School of Journalism and Mass Communications and all students in the School of Library and Information Science. If spaces are still available, registration will be opened to SJMC freshmen and sophomores in late August.

To learn more, please contact Rebekah Friedman (, alumni relations and communications coordinator for the College of Information and Communications.
