Broadcast journalism students sweep top reporting spots in RTDNA competition

For the second straight year, USC broadcast journalism students swept the top spots in the Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas reporting awards at the group’s annual convention held Nov. 14 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. The contest was open to broadcast journalism students from all colleges and universities in North and South Carolina.  Watch the winning stories below.

  Rixon Lane took first in Best Sports Story for his report on "Recruiting Rankings." He investigated the rankings systems of student athletes coming out of high school.

  Jordan Gougeon

  Jordan Gougeon’s touching "Eliza’s Story" about a family’s efforts to raise money for research to try to save their child from a fatal illness took first in the Best Feature Reporting category.

  Emily McDonnell

  Emily McDonnell’s investigation of the University of South Carolina's "Carolina Alert" system won the top honor in Best News Reporting.
