Ph.D. candidate thrives in collaborative atmosphere

Dec. 18, 2018

When Patrick Flynn was looking for a Ph.D. program a few years ago, he wasn’t just looking for a top research school with stellar human resources rankings. He was looking for invested faculty that truly engage with and care about their students. As a researcher deeply interested in human interactions at work, he wanted that personal edge in his program too.

“There is a strong culture of support and collaboration in the management department,” he says.

Since joining the organizational behavior/human resources program in 2014, Patrick has developed many meaningful relationships with faculty and other students as well as building on his research skills, which he has been able to apply to his current research.

“I've been fortunate to learn directly from editors at many of the top journals in our field,” he says. “It’s unique to be able to bounce ideas off of so many experts as I develop my research projects.”

When he graduates in May 2019, Patrick will be taking his breadth of knowledge to the Poole College of Management at NC State University, where he hopes to continue building on his research and educating human resource management students as an assistant professor.
