Why Choose MACC?
Customizable Curriculum Taught by Top-Ranked Faculty
We are dedicated to setting you up for success, positioning you to accelerate faster than your peers. We help you position yourself with confidence in a professional environment, offer small class sizes with top-ranked faculty and have the connections you need within the industry to get you where you want to go.
In just 10 months, our students supplement a strong core curriculum with courses tailored to match their interests. You’ll choose from two tracks ‒ taxation (TAX) or business measurement and assurance (BMA) ‒ each with the flexibility to select electives based on your individual career and academic interests. We also offer specializations and certificates for students who want to focus their courses in a specific area and the ability to further customize your degree by taking other UofSC graduate-level courses including study abroad.
Real-World Experience and CPA Preparation
Earning your CPA licensure is an important career milestone. This is why our core MACC curriculum focuses on ensuring you will possess a strong technical knowledge of accounting principles and demonstrate critical thinking skills to:
- Identify client problems, issues and opportunities and develop sound solutions and recommendations
- Analyze data, identify and react to trends
- Exhibit the communication skills necessary to interact well with clients, coworkers and other professionals
You’ll also have access to the same software, tools and tasks you would use in a real-world job setting, ensuring your ability to deliver from day one in a new position.
CPA Exam Success
The MACC program includes a required simulated CPA exam, focused study/test weeks integrated into each semester, access to free or discounted study materials and individual study plans to assist in your studying efforts. Many of our students complete all four parts of the exam prior to graduation.
What’s more, we believe our students should have access to as many study tools as possible and provide you with the flexibility to use the resources that best suit your learning style and study habits. Available tools include:
Because students can enroll in three terms throughout the year, and have the flexibility to have vastly different schedules, one study plan for all just won't cut it. To ensure that none of our students fall behind in their goal of completing the exam prior to their job start date, we work closely with you to map out your study schedule within the program. With progression check-ins as you go through the program, we make sure you finish the exam on your timeframe, not ours.
All of our students receive mapping of MACC prerequisite courses, core courses and electives that correspond to each of the four sections of the CPA Exam. This allows you to plan when to take each section of the exam based on your completion of the courses that cover the relevant content.
We provide MACC students dedicated time in the fall and spring semesters to use for target exam scheduling and dedicated study time. These breaks allow you to limit distractions from your coursework to ensure maximum CPA Exam focus. Utilizing these breaks, you can easily spread the exam across your MACC experience instead of trying to complete all four sections in the summer before you begin your new job.
Most firms hiring our MACC students provide CPA Exam review materials as a part of their employment offer at no cost. If you work for a firm that does not offer this incentive, we provide access to free CPA Exam review materials that can be checked out from the MACC library at your convenience.
If you work for a firm that does not provide CPA Exam review materials, we offer scholarships and financial discounts that significantly reduces the cost of CPA Exam review materials.
