Editing YouTube Captions

YouTube is the university’s preferred video hosting platform for its ease of sharing videos. Closed captions are automatically created for most videos, but you will need to edit these for accuracy.

YouTube and Auto-Generated Captions

When you upload a video to YouTube, it can auto-generate closed captions for your video using speech recognition technology. However, the captions will not be accurate on their own and may not be ready as soon as you upload the video due to processing time. You will need to manually edit these captions to ensure their accuracy.

Instructions for Editing Captions

You can edit auto-generated captions by following YouTube’s guide for editing or removing existing captions. It's important to edit both your caption text and caption timing to line up with the audio in your video.

For long videos that require a lot of manual editing, consider using professional captioning software (e.g., Camtasia) and uploading your caption file to YouTube.

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
