UofSC Students Win Gilman Scholarship

Ten University of South Carolina students will be able to explore the globe thanks to being awarded the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship. In the first cycle of this year's competition, our ten scholars are Michaela Catoe, Stephanie Daniel, Olivia Falk, Rodrianna Gaddy, Meoshay Jefferson, Malika Lightbourne, Justin Weeks, Laura White, Dynesha Wright and Michael Zhu. These students will be abroad in eight different countries during their travels in the upcoming year.

Student Awarded Rotary Global Grant for Study in London

University of South Carolina senior Grace Cooney has been named a recipient of the Rotary Global Grant to pursue a Master of Science in Migration, Culture, and Global Health from Queen Mary University of London in 2020-2021. Cooney is sponsored by the Capital Rotary Club in Rotary District 7770.

Six UofSC Students Named NOAA Hollings Scholars

Six rising juniors at the University of South Carolina have been chosen as 2019 Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholars. This year's recipients, Camryn Arnstein, Hannah Aycock, Maura Glovins, Jaquan High, Claudia Moncada, and Sara Nix bring the total number of USC Hollings Scholars to 56 over the 15 years of this national competition, with 31 won in the past five years.

UofSC Student Wins Boren Scholarship to Study Critical Language Abroad

UofSC senior, Patrick McKenzie has received the Boren Scholarship for 2019-2020, out of 244 awards given nationally. This brings the total number of UofSC Boren Scholarship and Fellowship winners to 52.

18th Consecutive Year of Fulbright Grantees for UofSC

For the 18th consecutive year, the University of South Carolina will be represented abroad next year by Fulbright US Student grantees conducting research, studying, and serving as English Teaching Assistants. This year our six Fulbright Finalists (those offered the Fulbright Student Grant) are Alexis Bantle, David Beek, Emily Fisher, Hanna Lamm, Tamera Sullivan and Danielle Wood. Four other UofSC applicants, Lisa Camp, Devon Cassidy, James Mayson and Krystal Rampalli, have been named Alternates.

27th Consecutive Year UofSC Students Earn Goldwater Scholarship

For the twenty-seventh consecutive year, University of South Carolina students have been named Goldwater Scholars. A total of 56 Goldwater Scholarships have been won by USC students since 1990, with 55 of those Goldwater Scholars members of the South Carolina Honors College.

UofSc's 2019 NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Winners and Honorable Mentions

One UofSC undergraduate student, two graduate students, and seven alumni have been awarded 2019 National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowships (GRF). Current South Carolina senior Noemi Glaeser, graduate students Kaitlyn Pilarzyk and Luke Wilde, and alumni Vincent Esposito, Abigail Herschman, Colman Moore, Shrusti Patel, Adrian Perez, Samantha Stewart, and Heather Struckman have all been named NSF GRF Fellows. Two other current students, William Edwards and Sarah Zajovits, as well as three alumni, Justin DuRant, Jonathan Keefe, and Elizabeth Rizor were selected for Honorable Mentions in this prestigious graduate fellowship competition.

UofSC Students Awarded Critical Language Scholarships

Four students have been awarded Critical Language Scholarships to undertake intensive language study abroad. Madison Bradley and Avery Kral have been offered the chance to study Arabic, Nicolas Ferguson to study Chinese, and Kylee Yturralde to study Indonesian. This brings USC's total of CLS award winners to 31 since it was established in 2006. Tyler Quehl, Kathryn Ramey and Mariah Stewart have been named alternates for the Chinese and Russian programs, respectively. Madison, Nicolas, Avery and Kylee join approximately 550 competitively-selected American students at U.S. colleges and universities who will received a CLS award in 2019.

Two University students named Truman Scholar Finalists

The Office of Fellowships and Scholar Programs is pleased to announce that Bennett Lunn and John "Jack" Gabel have been named Truman Scholar Finalists. Highly competitive and prestigious, the $30,000 Truman Scholarship is awarded to approximately 60 juniors nationally for superior academic ability, a strong record of service and leadership, and plans for careers in public service.

UofSC 2019 Pickering Graduate Fellowship Winner

The Office of Fellowships and Scholar Programs is excited to announce that senior Adriana Bowman has been named one of 30 Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship recipients in the nation.
