UofSC Student Awarded Rotary Global Grant for Study in Colombia

A University of South Carolina senior, Hanson Cowan, has been named a recipient of the Rotary Global Grant to pursue a Master's of Epidemiology at Universidad de Antioquia in Medellín, Colombia. Cowan is sponsored by the Five Points Rotary Club in Rotary District 7770.

Patrick Kelly remembers the exact moment his dream of becoming a Truman Scholar came undone. He had dotted every 'i' and crossed every 't' in his political science and history studies and joined the mock trial team at the University of South Carolina. "If it was what you were supposed to do for pre-law, I was doing it," Kelly says.

Two University of South Carolina Students Awarded GEM National Consortium Fellowships

The Office of Fellowships and Scholar Programs is pleased to announce Brandon Bolton and Eduardo Romero have each been awarded a GEM National Consortium Fellowship. The GEM program seeks to enhance the value of the nation's human capital by increasing the participation of underrepresented groups at the master's and doctoral levels in engineering and science.

Three win UK Summer Fulbright Awards

Rising sophomores Eliana Lord, Robert Magee, and Jeremy Ward are each spending their summers attending a UK Fulbright Summer Institute, bringing USC's total to four winners since the program began in 2010.

Five UofSC Students Awarded Fulbright Grants through the Fulbright US Student Program.

For the 17th consecutive year, the University of South Carolina will be represented abroad next year by Fulbright US Student grantees conducting research, studying, and serving as English Teaching Assistants. This year our five Fulbright Finalists (those offered the Fulbright Student Grant) are James Anderson, Kara Jones, Rebecca Schick, Himabindu Vinnakota, and William Welsh. Two other USC applicants, Tori Bennett and Ashley White, have been named Alternates.

Six UofSC Students Awarded Critical Language Scholarships from Boren and CLS

Four USC students have received the Boren Scholarship for 2018-2019, out of 221 awards given nationally. Two students have been awarded Critical Language Scholarships to undertake intensive language study abroad.

UofSC Junior Awarded National Udall Scholarship

The University of South Carolina is thrilled to announce that junior Ashley Davis has been named a 2018 Udall Scholar. She is a member of the South Carolina Honors College.

UofSC Brings Total of Hollings Scholars to 50

Five rising juniors at the University of South Carolina have been chosen as 2018 Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholars. This year's recipients, Cameron Collins, Calyn Crawford, Leah Moore, Emily Skinner, and Savannah Weber, bring the total number of USC Hollings Scholars to 50 over the 14 years of this national competition, with 25 won in the past four years alone. This makes the University one of the top four Hollings Scholars producers in the nation since the inception of the scholarship in 2005.

UofSC 2018 NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Winners and Honorable Mentions

Four current USC students and six USC alumni have been awarded 2018 National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowships (GRF). Current seniors Mara Cowen, Kayla Gardner, Erica Maissy, Kaitlin McClamrock, as well as alumni Samantha Ervin, Luke Havens, Megan Mitchell, Rachel Smoak, Courtney Swink, and Tibra Wheeler have all been named NSF GRF Fellows. Four other current students, senior Shrusti Patel and graduate students Nicholas Riccardi, Michael Royko, and Wesley Taylor, as well as two alumni, Justin DuRant and Christopher Haycook, were selected for Honorable Mentions in this prestigious graduate fellowship competition.

UofSC Rhodes Scholar forges a new path at Oxford

Caroline Parler Potter thought she had a solid plan when she graduated from the South Carolina Honors College in 1999 and headed to England as a Rhodes Scholar in 2000.

Casey Brayton named Truman Scholar

Casey Brayton's passion for oceanography was ignited when she decided to join her high school's National Ocean Sciences quiz bowl team. It was a good complement to her other interest -- math, the subject her father taught her early on was "the language of life."

26th Consecutive Year USC Students Earn Goldwater Scholarship

For the twenty-sixth consecutive year, USC students have been named Goldwater Scholars. A total of 53 Goldwater Scholarships have been won by USC students since 1990, with 52 of those Goldwater Scholars members of the South Carolina Honors College.

Two Future Foreign Service Officers are USC Pickering Finalists
